# How to enable face blurring for videos uploaded to your system (Admin)
**NOTE: If you have a Talent HS system, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager in order to first gain permission to have access to this feature.**
Your organization can have TORSH Talent blur every face in new video uploads made to your system using the **Blur Faces in Videos** tool! Faces are blurred before anyone can watch the video, including the person who uploaded it. Talent then deletes the original file, so no unblurred copy exists after the fact.
If you have the **Blur Faces in Videos** tool enabled for your system, you as a System Admin can ensure that all videos uploaded to your TORSH Talent system moving forward are uploaded with blurred human faces. Nothing changes for an organization until a System Admin sets the **Blur faces in videos** feature to either **'Required'** or **'Optional**.'

### **How To Activate Face Blurring in Your System**
As a System Admin, you can activate the Face Blurring in Videos tool by first navigating to your **'Management Panel'** on your TORSH Talent homepage. From there, click **'System Settings.'**
Next, scroll down to the **Feature Management** section of your System Settings. There you will find the **'Blur faces in videos' option**. From there, you have (3) separate modes for the feature to choose from:
- **Required** - Every new upload from anyone in the organization is blurred. Users see their own setting locked on.
- **Optional** - Each users chooses whether or not the videos they upload have their faces blurred. The individual user setting is 'OFF' by default in both the website and their mobile app.
- **Disabled** - The feature is disabled for the system. Video uploads do not process any face blurring.
#### **Optional Mode Enabling Process**
In **Optional** mode, users can manually enable the face blurring tool for themselves individually by navigating to their **'profile icon'** in the top, right-hand corner of their Talent webpage. From there, they can go to **Account Settings → Video Privacy → Blur faces in my videos**.
They can also enable the feature via the **'Settings'** page of their TORSH Talent mobile app once the feature is enabled as Optional for the system.
The change in mode applies only to uploads made after the change. **Existing videos are not changed.** Talent decides once for each upload, when the upload finishes, from the uploader's own setting change.
The face blurring tool applies to videos uploaded via the website as well as videos uploaded via the TORSH Talent mobile app.
#### **Required Mode Enabling Process**
In **Required** mode, both setting pages display the face blurring setting as enabled by default and locked with **Required by your organization**.
The change in mode applies only to uploads made after the change. **Existing videos are not changed.** Talent decides once for each upload, when the upload finishes, from the uploader's System's mode change.
The face blurring tool applies to videos uploaded via the website as well as videos uploaded via the TORSH Talent mobile app.
### **Video Upload Process with Face Blurring Enabled**
With face blurring enabled for a video upload, the upload/encoding process now provides an extra face blurring step before the video becomes available for playback on the website:
1. First, the video upload processes and completes.
2. Talent then blurs every face it finds in the original video file. The video displays on the website with a 'Blurring faces...' thumbnail while this processes. This blurring process generally takes the same length of time as the video's overall recorded length.
3. When blurring completes, Talent immediately deletes the original video file, including older stored versions of the file.
4. The blurred video is encoded for playback and transcribed as usual.
5. Lastly, the final blurred video displays with a **Faces blurred** tag.
The blur tool runs on TORSH Talent's own AWS servers. No outside AI service receives the video. Blurring takes about as long as the video itself. Until the video is ready, nobody can play it, including the uploader.
- Nobody can download the original, share the video (the owner included), clip, duplicate or merge it.
- Clips and duplicates made later come from the blurred video.
- In the mobile app, Talent even throws away the original preview thumbnail the phone made, because it would otherwise display an image from the unblurred recording. Talent makes a new thumbnail from the blurred video to display instead.
### **What Happens If Face Blurring Fails**
If the face blurring tool fails, Talent tries the blurring process again automatically: 15 minutes after the first failure, then 2 hours after the second. After the third failure:
- Talent deletes the original video file.
- The video shows “We couldn't blur faces in this video. Please upload it again or contact support.”
- The owner gets a notification.
- On SESEBA Grow, the classroom video slot opens again, so the teacher can upload a new video.
### **What Exactly Gets Blurred in the Tool?**
- Every face Talent finds, from the front or the side, and heads that are turned or looking down.
- People of all ages. Version 1 does not try to tell children from adults. Nobody can choose a face to leave unblurred, and nobody can unblur a video.
- Talent checks its own results. If any face it found is not covered on its frame, the attempt fails instead of publishing a partly blurred video.
- In classroom samples, about 9% of each frame is blurred on average.
### **What Is Not Affected By the Face Blurring Tool?**
- Only video uploads are affected by the tool. Documents, images, and audio files are not.
- Audio in the video does not change. Voices and spoken names remain.
- Names on screen, name tags and badges, whiteboards, and screens are not blurred.
- Videos uploaded before the mode was set do not change.
- Embedded videos and links are not uploads, so they do not change.
- Face detection is not always perfect. Very small, far away, out of focus, or mostly hidden faces can be missed by the tool. Viewers can report that with the thumbs down in the **How did the blurring turn out?** feedback provided above the video.
### **Providing Feedback To The Face Blurring Tool**
Next to the **Faces blurred** tag, every viewer sees **How did the blurring turn out?** with a thumbs up and a thumbs down.
**Share More** opens a **“What did the blurring miss or get wrong?”** pop-up. Type your feedback in, and click **'Submit Feedback'** to save your response. Each viewer has one answer per video and can change it.
**NOTE: This feedback tool is only available for TORSH Talent video pages as well as SESEBA Grow video pages. It is not available for the TORSH Talent mobile app.**

**Does the face blurring tool specifically blur children's faces?**
- No, the face blurring tool blurs all faces it finds, at any age.
**Are my videos fully anonymized with the face blurring tool?**
- No, while faces are blurred - voices, names, and text on screen remain unchanged.
**Can my videos be un-blurred after the face blurring takes place?**
- Talent does not keep an unblurred copy of the video. Nobody can unblur a video.
**When face blurring is enabled, will it blur all of my previously uploaded videos?**
- No, the face blurring tool will only apply to new video uploads moving forward from the setting change.
**How long will the face blurring process take?**
- The face blurring process takes about as long as the video plays. Then the video is encoded for playback as usual.
**Is the face blurring 100% consistent?**
- Talent checks that every face it finds is covered. Very small or hidden faces can be missed. Use the thumbs down to tell us.
